The Idea-Smash Framework
FHTT turns moonshots into stepping stones. It takes your "impossible" future concept and reverse-engineers a plausible chain of inventions—each one buildable with near-future resources, each one demonstrably better than the last.
1. DEFINE THE FUTURE
Strip away the sci-fi language. Reduce your concept to pure function: "a system that does X, Y, and Z." No magic words. Just engineering requirements.
2. INVENTORY THE PRESENT
Catalog current tech, processes, and materials that do parts of what you need. Note measurable properties: efficiency, density, speed, cost.
3. BREAK INTO COMPONENTS
Separate the monolith into functional chunks—energy source, storage, control systems, materials. Think Lego pieces, not magic boxes.
4. MAP THE GAPS
Compare each chunk to what exists now. What's already close enough? What's partially there? What's completely missing?
5. SMASH & COMBINE
Look for unexpected pairings from different industries. Biology + tech. Aerospace + consumer goods. Convergence lives here.
6. DEFINE STEPPING STONES
Map 2-5 intermediate versions. Each step must be buildable, demonstrably better, and adoption-ready. No giant leaps.
7. REALITY-CHECK AND LOOP
Find the weak links. Re-smash until the chain feels plausible. Keep the map alive—update as technology advances.
